A Soft Launch for David Thatcher Art
It's ALIVE!!
I’ve been working away on a new web store, David Thatcher Art.
The idea is simple. I wanted a place where I could keep the artwork, books, prints and clothing separate from the antiques side of my work. My armour and dealer profile belong in one world. This store gives me somewhere else to place the things that are still connected to samurai culture, but do not quite sit within a traditional LAPADA dealer setting.
In other words, this is where the samurai-related things can misbehave a little.
The store is new. Very new. Fresh-paint, missing-shelf, still-looking-for-the-light-switch new. There is a lot more work to do, and it will take shape properly over time. For now, it is a soft launch, and I have not advertised it outside Substack.
This is also where my armour books will be listed, along with Samurai Zasshi, my new journal project. Over time I’ll add more prints, designs and other pieces as they develop.
If you have time, please pop over and have a look. I’d also be interested to know what you would like to see. If there is a subject, figure, story or idea that fits this world, perhaps I can make something from it.
I rather like the idea of doing a complete Seven Samurai series, although that may be how I discover just how many ways there are to make seven people look dramatic in bad weather.
Items are Print on Demand, Free Shipping, I take care of your tax and postage and if you reside in these areas Europe, the USA, Canada, and Australia it should be printed within your country or be sent DDP (direct Duty paid. This is the biggest game changer as it completely removes me from the logistics nightmare.

I think this separation of your activities is a great idea Dave…..different markets, different routes to market etc. Keeps things simple and clear.
Personally, I like the sideways looking “off the wall” stuff on the tee shirts but maybe even consider just sticking a really good kabuto and Menpo on one, or maybe a gusoku…..for those that are perhaps more “mainstream”?
I too would like to see as Colin said maybe more mainstream ideas on T shirts etc .. I see often “ Samurai” themed T shirts - but almost fantasy themed too . Looking forward to the Journals and the books!! 😊👍
